Ulysses - The Ultimate Writing App App Reviews

Very very good - if you have OS X version get this

Works great with iCloud sync and is really neat how theyve packed in such nice functionality while keeping the presentation simple. So nice to have my texts on both Mac and mobile.

Versatile, Fast and Flexible

Ive been using Ulysses for a few months. - The app opens fast and supports Split View; - Use the markdown tools and you can create beautiful ePubs; - Just slide a page icon to change its order; - Exports beautifully to HTML; - iCloud integration. I dont use the Mac version, but I guess it would be handy to go back and forth. I still like that my projects are backed up through iCloud; - It took me about an hour to understand how to use it. That first hour was a little frustrating, but it was definitely worth the effort. I create an important ePub for work, so its vital that this works as advertised. I can say that after a few months, I highly recommend this app.

Love Ulysses Mobile!

Fantastic! This is the BEST writing app in the store!

Works as advertised!

Very elegant design and boosts my productivity! Thanks so much! Im very satisfied with my purchase. It might seem like a simple app, but it able to achieve a lot! Support Japanese, Chinese, and Korean language as well.

Simple, elegant, and powerful

Simple, elegant, and powerful. Just remarkable. The best writing tool I’ve used in thirty years. Now, you can write, edit, and publish in ways you couldn’t before. Bottom line: Ulysses lowers barriers to writing unlike anything else. The longer you use Ulysses, the better it gets. After a while, you just write, and you forget it’s there. All your work, all the time, on any Apple device (I have Mac, iPad, and iPhone). Hard to believe it’s easy now to write on an iPad or iPhone (but it is). Both OS X and IOS versions are similar, powerful, and wonderful. An added bonus: the newest app (ver 2.5) adds flawless import for docx documents. This is the future now.

Best in Klas

No other writing app even comes close-literally!

Not what I was hoping for

I did a lot of on line research on this program. It had rave reviews which leaves me wondering what people were thinking. This program works like the old 2000 Wordpress. You can bold and italicize your text, but your document is littered with codes and commands in front and behind words. It claims to give you a distraction free environment but this is the last description I would call this program. On the plus side it works and doesnt seem to be buggy on my iPadPro. Im giving it one star because it cost too much to not be what it claims.

Switched all my writing to Ulysses

I recently migrated my novel-in-progress from Scrivener to Ulysses. I thought I was making a sacrifice so that I could work on my phone or iPad, but I realized that I dont use most of Scriveners features. This app makes it *so* much easier to focus on the writing—and outlining, actually. Its the best writing app Ive ever used.

R to L languages support.

Will u please add support for the right to left languages such as Hebrew and Arabic, thanks.

The Gold Standard

If you write, you owe it to yourself to give Ulysses a try.

Boring, I know...but this app is AMAZING!

Own at least half of the writing/text editing apps in the store. This one nails it. Its not cluttered, but it has lots of flexibility and the kind of power I need: sheet(file) organization, awesome export, great shortcut bar, and scriptability. Im not reminded constantly of the things Im not using; theyre just waiting.

Amazing amazing amazing!

I was blown away by the desktop app. Then they made the iPad app, and that radically extended my writing capacity (write without lugging laptop). Now they wrote the iPhone app - I am amazed and blown away by the quality and care the team puts into making Ulysses. I can now edit and write anywhere, quite literally. Ive written blog posts, proposals, and even papers (that have been published) in Ulysses. Awesome software, written by an awesome team!

Ideal Markdown Tool

If you work with Markdown, this is essential.

BRUH!

Love this app. Great in every way! Good updates also. Seems really quick and user friendly too.

Absolutely amazing

As both an app developer and a (hobbyist) writer, I have high standards for a writing app. Ulysses didnt only meet my expectations; it shattered them. The effortless cross-device sync is the best use of iCloud in a third party app Ive ever seen. The apps design is elegant and simple, getting you right to what you should be doing: writing. At the same time, its versatile enough to accommodate your workflow. You might have a group for your manuscript and a group for your research, for instance. The iPhone app release added a helpful capability where research is concerned: the Share extension. From a third party app, you can easily share to Ulysses, so any text or images are imported as a new sheet in what has become my -- and I hope will become your -- favorite writing app. Kudos to the Soulmen for creating this amazing app.

Ive been looking for something like this for a long time.

I consider this the best writing app Ive ever used. I mostly use it for taking lengthy notes. Its quick, has nice syncing, and all the markdown features I like to use. Ill never be able to use its full potential, there is just so much its capable of. Brooks sent me.

Love Ulysses, but...

As a long-time user of the desktop version, I eagerly purchased the iOS version. Love it on the iPad. The iPhone... well, thats a different story. At first, the app worked great. I finished a book with Ulysses on my iPhone. Then, a week or so ago, the app starts lagging big time. When I get to the end of a line, it takes a good five seconds before it returns. Same goes for highlighting and deleting. Takes way too long. Im using at 6s Plus so I know its not that my device is too slow or old. I hoped the latest update would fix this but apparently it hasnt.

Love love love the new update

Ulysses hits all of the right notes for me. The ideas behind the interface, the simplicity and power are all fantastic. I think a lot of people who first see this app might mistake it for just another Dropbox markdown writer, but for me, its another approach to a Scrivener style app. It doesnt have the long feature list that Scrivener does, but it allows me to do the same kinds of things I would want to in Scrivener but in a way that feels easier. It feels like theres no friction between me and getting my writing done. (No disrespect to Scrivener—its an amazing piece of software.) The concept of sheets, the organization capabilities, the way markup works, the sheet attachments—they all let me do what I need to without getting in the way. Its a very specific idea about how to write and its different from an app like Pages so it might not be for everyone, but I love it. I do pretty much all of my writing in it from tech specs for work, to a novel (68,000 words into my first draft

Changed the Way I Work

If youre a long-form writer and want to be able to work anywhere without the headache of juggling Dropbox but the benefit of producing proofs in things like iBook, this app and the Mac version are what you need to buy. For a serious writer, they are worth the price to save yourself from the aggravation & stress of things that have nothing to do with your prose.

My complete writing kit, now on iPhone

This app is great! Simple markdown writing up front, with plenty of power for editing and output. Keeps all my writing in iCloud, synced across devices,Mitch keywords, notes, attachments -- everything I need for writing work. When it comes time to output that writing, Word, PDF or even ePub export is right in the app. Even on the phone! The update brings fantastic iPhone & iPad Pro support.
