Delightful

This is the best text editor available for iPhone. Its markdown tools are superb. And it is a joy to write within. Using it every day now. Ulysses quickly earned a place on my home screen.

THE Writers Choice

Ulysses was made to perfectly integrate with the Apple Platform. It is optimized and enhanced to take advantage of the unique form factor of the iPhone, iPad and Mac (available as a separate purchase). And iCloud keeps all of these devices synced automatically. The big idea of Ulysses is that you can organize your complex ideas in a simple and powerful way. And best of all, the writing environment is beautifully designed and highly functional. With the latest update you can now append/prepend text from Drafts app with customizable actions. This is a huge step forward and gives Ulysses incredible power to more efficiently capture your ideas. Ulysses is also incredibly well-supported by the developer, which makes it a great app to invest in for the long term. And the wonderful Backup feature gives you extra piece of mind for your most important work. Ulysses is truly the writing app of choice for serious writers working on the Apple Platform!

Great app!

This is my new favorite writing tool. It is elegant, powerful, simple to use, spanning throughout your iDevices, and extremely reliable in syncing via iCloud. Amazing job. Five stars to grant when the developer will tweak some issues on attachments (PDFs...).

The most comprehensive text editor on iOS

This is the sort of app that you buy because the developer put so much thought into it that you cant believe how good it is. It strikes the perfect balance between power and simplicity, and is great for larger writing projects.

Great app and incredibly versatile... If its not crashing.

Absolutely loved this app until very recently the footnotes stopped working and no citations can ever be inserted since. This in conjunction with the inability of the app to allow for image caption (which I understand is not that easy to do with Markdown, but nonetheless important for the academic community who wish to use the Ulysses for more than just drafting) renders the app to become 3 stars only. Please try to fix the crash.

Different is not better

Ill never understand this product. Id be ok with that if it werent for the hefty price tag. But they pitch this as a writing app when really its a technical markdown editor suited for, what, bloggers? Im not entirely sure actually. All I know is its rife with unnecessary tools and confusing paradigms. Why is markup necessary for creative writing? How is littering ones manuscript with hashtags and other formatting symbols an improvement? Why is there something called an "Inbox" in this product? Does this imply incoming documents from others? Collaboration? Is this app actually used for email? Oh, I guess thats something Ill need to learn before using this super simple non-distracting text editor... Why are pages called "sheets"? Is that deep innovation ... Or is it marketing? The product description claims that this app has "everything you need" and then lists "links... Code... Markup... Comments" et al. Exactly zero percent of those are necessary for writing, particularly creative writing. Its fascinating when a product claims simplicity and intuitive UI yet includes numerous tutorial documents --sorry, I mean "sheets" -- to explain the very features that are supposed to be simple and intuitive. Had this app cost less, I would have just moved on (see: iA Writer. Another app that tried desperately to gain notice by reinventing everything resulting in a gain of nothing.) But this is one of the more expensive apps out there and it does not live up to the hype and/or the marketing is poorly focused

Changes your markdown

Ulysses appears to have a preferred way of formatting markdown, and doesnt always do it correctly. Whenever I load a file, it restyles things, and frequently breaks them, especially links (whats with all the backslashes). Ulysses kind of missed the whole point of markdown. I cannot abide an editor that fails to obey me. I have kids for that.

How did I ever write til now?

It boggles the mind since I cant remember. Ulysses has got to be the best writing tool for the modern writer since the typewriter. Theyre not kidding about the clean, distraction-free writing experience. Using Ulysses on my iPad Pro is a joy, turning it into a serious tool for a serious writer. One problem though! It mysteriously deleted a section from my iCloud repository without any warning. I was able to recover from the backup but it was a disconcerting. Devs been notified. If resolved its definitely five stars from me.

Love this app

These guys deserve an award of some kind. Really thought through app. It makes me happy.

The best writing tool period.

Ive followed the Soulmen over the years while they developed Ulysses. They were ahead of their time at the start and this latest iteration proves theyve havent lost their edge. The user experience is clean, minimalist and intuitive. Worth the price.

Love, Love, Love this App!..

And the people that produce it too. The best writing app out there for iPad. The best customer service too. Dont know what Id do without it. Thank you!
